From Humanitarian-FOSS Project Development Site

Due Monday, 1/28

  • Read Chapter 1 of Learning PHP/MySQL (14 pages) and answer the questions at the end of the chapter. (Answers are provided in the book's Appendix.)
  • Read Chapter 2 of Learning PHP/MySQL (20 pages, with lots of pictures.) Try to install Apache, PHP, and MySQL on your personal computer. If you have problems or it doesn't work, take notes (copy and paste error messages) and bring them to class.

Due Wednesday, 1/30

  • Finish installing Apache, PHP, and MySQL on your personal computer.
  • Read the Goertz article Open Source Everywhere. Find one non-software "open" project not mentioned in the article. Describe how it corroborates Goertz's claim that "open source is doing for mass innovation what the assembly line did for mass production". Be prepared to present and discuss your find in class.

How To Submit

  1. Bring your solutions to class. We'll go over the answers in class.
