The Open Planning Project

The Open Planning Project is an organization that provides FOSS for community activism. They have two main projects: OpenPlans (more information) and GeoServer (more information). OpenPlans is " a free wiki-based community organizing and project management tool", enabling users to organize various projects and read updates on progress. GeoServer is a mapping system similar to Google Maps. It is meant to help facilitate city planning.

The Open Planning Project was created by Mark Gorton, creator of LimeWire. Mark, an avid cyclist, was disappointed in New York City's accommodation of cyclists. The Open Planning Project was started in order to facilitate projects such as improving bicycle routes in NYC (for instance, changing traffic routes away from Central Park).
